Siem Reap, Cambodia

I must admit, one of the biggest reasons why I wanted to visit Siem Reap was because of the movie In the Mood for Love directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Even though the scene at Angkor Wat just account for some parts of the whole movie, still drove me to visit this mysterious place. The purpose of my trip was to search for the hole that Chow Mo-wan hid the secret.

“In the old days, if someone had a secret they didn’t want to share, you know what they did?” “They went up a mountain, found a tree, carved a hole in it, and whispered the secret into the hole, then they covered it with mud. And leave the secret there forever.” —— Screenplay from In The Mood For Love

Angkor Wat is a famous temple in Siem Reap. And the hole is in the west Angkor Wat, however, the area of the hole where he stayed in is now blocked that people can't get close to the hole. Still, the poetic and sorrowful atmosphere is around the Angkor Wat.

If you climb up to the Angkor Wat, you will see the magnetic view of the Angkor Wat.

I can hear Chow's voice....

Leave your secret here.

Another temple that you should not missed is Bakong Temple which is the first temple built by the sandstone and imitates the spiritual five-peaked mountain —Mount Meru.

The view from the top of the temple is unlike other temple, you can clearly see there are four roads from the East, South, West and North which lead to the Bakong Temple. Also, the side building is symmetrical. You can have the ancient and silent moment there since Bakong Temple is relatively uncrowded.
